Environmental Justice:
Air Pollution and Food Apartheid

Independent Research Project 

August 2022 - May 2023

  • Led independent research project on the relationship between air pollution, food apartheid conditions, and negative health outcomes in D.C. neighborhoods and worked with 2 professors to 

  • Skills: field data collection and analysis; system engineering modeling;  literature research; project proposal and grant writing to obtain funding; communication and outreach with local organizations.

DC Department of Transportation: Public Space Permit Policy

August 2022 - December 2022

  • Directed and organized a team of four students to complete a DDOT sponsored case study and policy analysis. 

  • Supervised the development of a 25 page “best practice” manual regarding public space permit policies and developed a model to optimize the permit obtainment process for stakeholders.

  • Skills: leadership; organization and time management; prioritization of tasks to meet DDOT established deadlines; clear communication of research, writing, and recommendations.

  • Provided weekly technical support to 30 undergraduate and graduate students  for ArcMap and ArcGIS pro in Windows, Mac, and Citrix environments.

  • Directed technical instruction for all 12 currently offered GIS Courses by adapting to students’ experience levels with spatial analysis and software experience.

  • Created a cartographic best practices manual for undergraduate students in Introductory and Intermediate GIS courses.

  • Analyzed satellite imagery to create infrastructure data in coordination with global USAID humanitarian and crisis response projects to better inform crisis response..

  • Led global, virtual, training for, on average, 100  students on the software JOSM and trained for data validation through guided 2 hour presentations and demos.

  • Spearheaded a new project monitoring role through collaboration with Bolivian stakeholders by providing recommendations and support in project creation and synthesizing data quality report templates for USAID.
